FRESH PRODUCE FROM LOCAL FARMERS IS BACK!

Article By: Cecilia Fischer

Last year so many of you reached out to request assistance for purchase of the Community Supported Agriculture CSA basket. After 7 years of doing this as a volunteer, I needed a break and it was important to let the lead rancher of 12 ranches, Luis Bastida, try out the system on his own. This year both of his kids are out to school so I have agreed to help CSA.

This means, I will take request for delivery (because in San Javier there is limited wifi), and with Luis or for Luis I will make deliveries as I use to your doorstep.

Starting next Tuesday 29th Oct, with a final request date by this Friday please. To order email:  Ceci.Fischer2023@gmail.com

First week there will be:

  • Spinach (from San Javier)

  • Arugula. (from San Javier)

  • Zucchini (from Los Dolores)

  • Russet Potatoes (from ranch close to Pacific)

  • White crystaline onion (which is sweet) - from San Javier

  • Green onion - from San Javier

  • Poblano Pepper (the type used to make chile relleno) - by Pacific.

  • Green cabbage - Los Dolores and by Pacific

  • Green Swiss Chard - San Javier, Los Dolores, and Pacific

  • Orange carrots - San Javier

  • Roma tomatos (salades) - San Javier, Los Dolores and Pacific

  • Squash - like you see on the picture - San Javier, Los Dolores

  • Oranges - San Javier and Pacific

  • Rosemary - San Javier and Loreto

  • Tiny orange similar to Kumquats - San Javier

  • Carmen Island Sea Salt for the 1st delivery - Loreto.

As the season continues there will be: kale, different types of citrus, melons, winter squashes, different chiles, cherrie tomatoes, basil (broad leaf) for making pesto, and cured olives (from me as a gift to thank you for supporting the ranchers).

If this is the first time you are reading about the local produce grown in Loreto, please make sure to thank your neighbors for helping start the local movement. By being interested in good food we have helped to protect our water, our soil, insects and our food. You can now purchase also fresh items from Ricardo Fuerte, from Jorge Magdaleno, and several other groups.

We are honored to have come so far after now 9 years of doing this!

This is project that has been sponsored by Mantén Loreto Mágico and website www.keeploretomagical.org
